Doula FAQs – Can a doula in Ireland make decisions for me?
No is the short answer. A doula cannot make decisions for you with medical staff about your care. However, a doula can remind you of what your preferences are, and a doula can talk with you about any new information that comes up during the labour and a doula might suggest that you think about a decision rather than make your mind up straight away.
A doula should not directly interfere with your medical care at any time. A doula is NOT a health care professional and cannot make medical decisions; she is a person whose role is to provide emotional and physical support and works in collaboration with your attending midwife to ensure your emotional and physical well being
